Widmer Hefeweizen

I love myself a good hefeweizen, but unfortunately contrary to the name, this beer is classified an American Pale Wheat Ale. I also enjoy that style, so this is a win/win for me. I've only had one other beer from Widmer Brothers Brewing Company, which was, Drifter Pale Ale. I really enjoyed that beer so I'm hoping the Hefeweizen can be just as good. The Widmer Hefeweizen is the flagship beer of the brewery. They classify it as "a golden unfiltered wheat beer that is truly cloudy and clearly superb."
1998 and 2006 GABF Gold Medal Award Winner
2004 and 2008 Gold Medal Beer Cup

4.9% ABV which makes it a sessionable brew.
30 IBU which means it should't have really any bitterness to it at all.

Seems like a fairly straightforward "hefeweizen." Let's get to the review.

A: Pours a cloudy straw color. Little to no head and very minimal lacing is present. What is present though are tons of bubbles. Seems like a super carbonated beer.

S: The scent is primarily yeast, almost biscuit-like.. if that's even a word. There's also mild citrus present mixed with a little bit of clove. Overall, it's a fairly weak scent. Albeit it's a weak taste, I'm pretty excited to try it for some reason.

T: Taste is actually pretty bland. There aren't really too many defining characteristics. It seems to have a bit of a watery taste. There is definitely wheat present and a very banana/clove finish and aftertaste, but that's about it. Not a bad taste, but much like the scent, weak.

M: Light bodied with high carbonation. Seems really counterproductive and odd.

D: It's still a drinkable beer. The ABV is relatively low. The taste and mouthfeel, though not outstanding, are not offensive to the point that they are a turnoff.

Grade: It's a one thumb down beer. I'm pretty disappointed in it. Although not bad, I wouldn't seek it out again.
On the bright side though.. not sure if you can see it in the picture, but I like the cap and will definitely be adding it to my collection.

Bell's Oberon Ale

I'm not sure If I've ever been more excited to try a beer before.  I have been waiting literally nearly a year to try this beer.  Since they don't sell it in Western New York I thought I would be waiting damn near forever.  I recently have moved down to Orlando Florida, more specifically Lake Buena Vista.  Yes, that's where Disney World is.  I'm working for Disney World right now.  But, to my surprise I was walking about a local grocery store earlier and saw it!  I saw Bells Oberon Ale, and I damn near almost broke the bottles because I was so quick to throw the 6 pack in the cart.  I felt like a little kid on Christmas morning getting that toy I've waited for, for so long.
Bell's Brewery lists Oberon Ale as an American wheat ale brewed with Saaz hops. Spicy and fruity, Oberon is the color and scent of a sunny afternoon.  Should be an easy going beer with a modest 5.8% ABV.

Time to try the beer, and I'm praying I'm not disappointed because my expectations are absolutely through the roof.

A:  Hazy golden body topped with a whispy white minuscule head.

S:  Floral and citrus hops mixed with bread malts.  Not very much to write about with appearance or scent.  Very straightforward.

T:  Tangy wheat with a small bit of vanilla on the front. Some fruity spices and light herbal hop flavor in the middle. The finish is bread malts with some coriander.

M:  Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

D:  I put the beer down in about 10-15 seconds.  Once I got my first taste, I couldn't stop drinking it.  Nectar of the gods sums this up perfectly.  Mix the PERFECT taste with a decent ABV and you have a session brew.

Grade:  A+ | Two Thumbs Up | 100  - - - Go get this beer however you can.

Samuel Adams Summer Ale

A - Hazy orange color. Nice foamy white head.

S - Citrus smell is the first smell I detected which is normal for a wheat beer. Seems like there was a small aroma of spice.

T - Taste was very blah and honey like. It was sweet. I didn't taste any lemon or any other citrus which is how the brew is supposed to taste. I'm not sure if it was a problem with where I got it from. But I was definitely disappointed in the taste.

M - Pretty light bodied with medium carbonation

D - I'm not too sure about the drinkability based on the first impression. I'm going to have to go out and buy a six pack of this to rate it correctly. Based on the body and how the beer is supposed to taste I'd imagine it would be pretty drinkable.

One Thumb Down!

Southern Tier Hop Sun (Summer Wheat Beer)

A: Golden copper. Had a nice half an inch white head but it went away pretty quickly. Pretty nice lacing on the glass. I was surprised that.

S: Strong lemon and orange and what seems to smell like pine needles. It's truly a beautiful smell.

T: After smelling such a good smell I was worried that I was going to be highly disappointed by the taste. Definitely not the case! I was actually impressed that the taste was just as good as the smell! Definitely a dominating taste of lemon and orange. I also taste the pine needles that I smelled so I wasn't imagining it. Also, I can definitely taste some wheat and possibly banana. I would need to drink another bottle so I could get a better feel if there is banana. Also I tasted hops on the finish.

M: Strong carbonation with a light body. Very crisp refreshing beer that is specifically made for the summer, but I could find myself drinking it any time.

D: EXCEPTIONAL drinkability is the only way to describe it. It's probably pretty easy to get caught up mowing the lawn or just relaxing in the yard and downing a 6 pack. With the low ABV, it would probably be hard to taste it also.

Two Thumbs Up!

Magic Hat Circus Boy

A: Dark hazy golden yellow color. Bubbles slowly float to the top of the glass. Hardly any head nor lacing.

S: Various smells are present.. Lemon, Citrus, wheat and even a grassy type smell.

T: The taste is what you smell. Citrus-Lemon and what seems to be a bit of pineapple. It's got a pretty nice balance overall. I dig the spice towards the finish. The taste isn't bad.. but.. I feel like it's missing something. It doesn't leave me craving for more.

M: Very low carbonation if any at all. Very light. Crisp and refreshing.

D: Pretty drinkable brew especially during the summer. It just really doesn't leave me asking for more which is the problem.

Two Thumbs Down!
